Justifications

1. Jude's Speech - Eight by Ella Hickson
I feel this monologue would show off my storytelling ability. It is written as if he is talking to and audience or an unseen friend. In this monologue there is a clear journey and progression in the character which means there is very good emotional range to play off of. The monologue is also very long which means I can pick which sections I wish to do. The Character is also very close to my own age which means I would have an easier time identifying with him and portraying the events which unfold in the monologue.

2. Carl's Speech - Before It Rains by Katherine Chandler
This monologue starts off with a bang! This is a very good thing as I feel like monologues that start off with low energy never peak and disconnect me from the piece from the get-go. Due to the punchy high energy of the first line I feel as if I will captivate my audience allowing me to command their attention without having to fight for it. The intentions of the monologue are very clear and there is a very distinctive mood and there is no confusion to what Carl wants in this scene. The character is very complex and not the nicest of people so I would have a lot of playing around and finding the right balance between vulnerable and dangerous.

3. Greg's Speech - Bottleneck by Luke Barnes
The whole play is one big monologue so I have a lot of choice on what I could show for my final performance. I have also studied this text in detail before for another audition which I was successful in so I know I was doing something right. The monologue could show off either my comedic skills or my dramatic ability depending on what path I wish to go down. The character of Greg is very energetic which I would say is my performance style but I could take the on the text with maturity and poise.
